Romantic castles, nature and wine: The 403 kilometre Saale Cycle Path is one of the prettiest and most varied river cycling paths in Germany. Discover the romantic and idyllic Saale Valley from the source of the River Saale in the Fichtel Mountains above Jena and Naumburg to the Salle Estuary, where it joins the River Elbe by the town of Barby.
World renowned places of culture that are rich in history such as the Leuchtenburg Castle near Kahla or the Naumburg Cathedral line the banks of the river. Picturesque valleys with dreamy little villages alternate with lush vineyards and historic cultural heritage sites. In the upper sections of the cycle path you will discover dams and reservoirs which can be explored further by boat.
The Saale Cycle Path can be experienced over nine stages. As part of the nationwide D-Route 11 the Saale Cycle Path is well signposted and consists of mainly asphalted, waterproofed roads that are usually car-free. From Saalfeld to the river estuary the route is very family friendly. Only in the upper sections of the Saale are there some steep slopes, which can be a bit more demanding. The entire route is easy to reach by train. In many places there are rental and charging stations for e-bikes and pedelecs (pedal electric cycles).

Romantische Burgen, Natur und Wein: Der 403 Kilometer lange Saaleradweg ist einer der reizvollsten und abwechslungsreichsten Flussradwege in Deutschland. Von der Saalequelle im Fichtelgebirge über Jena und Naumburg bis nach Barby an der Elbe entdecken Sie das romantische und idyllische Tal der Saale.
Kulturorte von Weltruf wie die Leuchtenburg bei Kahla oder der Naumburger Dom säumen die Ufer des geschichtsreichen Flusses. Malerische Flusstäler mit verträumten kleinen Dörfchen wechseln sich ab mit saftig grünen Weinbergen und historischen Kulturgütern. Im oberen Verlauf des Radweges laden Talsperren zu Entdeckungen per Schiff ein.
Der Saaleradweg lässt sich gut in neun Etappen erradeln. Als Teil der bundesweiten D-Route 11 ist der Saaleradweg durchweg beschildert. Die Wege sind größtenteils asphaltiert, wassergebunden und meist autofrei ausgeschildert. Ab Saalfeld bis zur Mündung ist die Streckenführung familienfreundlich. Lediglich im oberen Verlauf der Saale existieren einige starke Steigungen, die sportlich anspruchsvoll sind. Der gesamte Streckenverlauf ist bestens per Bahn erreichbar. Vielerorts existieren Ausleih- und Ladestationen für E-Bikes und Pedelecs.
